Porsche Cayman GT4, Boxster Spyder to gain PDK option this year – report

Porsche will have a dual-clutch transmission ready for the 718 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder by the end of 2020, according to reports from Europe.

Evo Magazine says the PDK GT4 twins will join the six-speed manual this year, becoming the first motorsports Cayman or Boxster to get an automatic transmission in the process.

The first Cayman GT4 was manual-only, unlike its 911 GT3 bigger brother, while the current-generation car has launched with a manual as the only option.

Porsche moved from the six-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine in the previous Cayman and Boxster to a turbocharged four-cylinder when it introduced the 718 line-up, but has since backtracked.

The current Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder were the first cars in the current 718 range to once again feature a six-cylinder engine.

They were followed by the recently-revealed Cayman and Boxster GTS 4.0, both of which sub their existing turbo four-cylinder engines for a detuned version of the GT4's naturally-aspirated flat six.

Like the GT4, the GTS twins are currently only available with a manual transmission.

Porsche Australia couldn't confirm when the PDK-equipped Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder will be offered in Australia.
