Ford’s Troller division reveals new, Ranger-based TX4
Ford’s Brazilian off-road division has cooked up a new version of its rugged, Ranger-based four-wheel-drive.
Ford’s upcoming Bronco has yet to be confirmed for any markets outside North America. Brazilian consumers seeking a rugged, two-door, Ranger-based four-wheel-drive, however, already have one – the Troller.
Troller is the name of a Brazilian 4WD manufacturer founded in 1995 and acquired by Ford in 2007.
Its only product, the Brazilian-engineered, Jeep Wrangler-inspired T4, has received an automatic transmission and an electrically-operated locking rear differential to become the TX4.
The TX4 also adds a snorkel, auxiliary Hella LED lights, and Pirelli Scorpion MTR 245/70 R17 tyres.
The Troller moved to a shortened version of the Ford Ranger platform in 2014.
It therefore uses the same 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission as found in the Ranger. Total output is 149kW and 470Nm.
With its rugged underpinnings and shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system, the Troller is a serious off-roader.
It measures 4095mm long on a 2585mm wheelbase.
In comparison, a two-door Jeep Wrangler measures 4334mm long on a 2459mm wheelbase.
Inside the TX4, there’s unique orange trim and stitching details.
As on the T4, there’s a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as dual-zone climate control, split-fold rear seats, a dual-panel glass roof and power windows.
Troller asks 167,530 Brazilian real for a TX4, or A$58,233 at today’s exchange rates.
Coming soon is the Chinese Territory, a rebadged JMC Yusheng S330.
