2021 Volkswagen Caddy spied

The new Caddy will get a Golf-inspired makeover for 2020, with a sharper face and up-to-date interior.

Volkswagen's soon-to-be-revealed 2020 Caddy van has been spied during cold weather testing, ahead of its full debut in February.

Although it's disguised with a heavy plastic cladding at the front end, we can see the new Caddy will have Golf-style headlamps linked with a slim grille.

Expect to see an aggressive lower fascia, too, in keeping with a sketch revealed earlier this week.

Down back, the brake lights appear to extend right to the top of the tailgate area. There's some clever black tape designed to cover the details down back, but we'd bank on seeing a large rear window in the split rear doors.

Under the skin, the new Caddy will ride on Volkswagen's MQB architecture. That should ensure the new van is stiffer and lighter than before, with support for a range of 48V mild- and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Spy photos we published last year show the next-generation Caddy will have a wide touchscreen infotainment unit mounted high on the dashboard and angled towards the driver, in keeping with the Mk8 Golf (pictured bottom).

If rumours are correct, the new Caddy will be available in two body lengths, and be sold as a commercial van with barn doors at the rear, or a people mover with rear windows and a lift-up tailgate.
