2021 Jaguar XF spied

Jaguar's large sedan rival to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class is in line for a nip-and-tuck.

Jaguar's updated XF sedan has been snapped during winter testing, as it gets ready to take on the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The large sedan looks set to receive a smattering of small body changes, like tweaked bumpers and trim pieces up front, along with a mildly redesigned grille.

A set of sharper-looking headlights are also likely, in keeping with recent changes to the F-Type and XE.

Down back, the updated Big Cat should get similarly subtle tweaks to the bodywork and lights. Don't expect anything earth shattering, though.

Under the skin, Jaguar could update the XF's engine line-up with the latest diesel motors from the smaller XE. Inside, the latest JLR infotainment with its touch-based controls for climate and infotainment – borrowing heavy inspiration from the I-Pace electric crossover – is likely to feature.

Jaguar managed to sell just 50 examples of the XF in 2019, down from 222 in 2018. That's down significantly on the 964 homes BMW found for the 5 Series, and the 1228 Mercedes-Benz found for the E-Class.

Even the Maserati Ghibli outsold the XF last year.
