Watch every 2020 Super Bowl car commercial so far

Question: What do you get when you combine a former Game of Thrones star, a Grammy winner and a bunch of Boston accents?

Answer: The car commercials at the 2020 Super Bowl.

The annual NFL championship game traditionally attracts millions of television viewers each year – with Nielsen claiming last year's game was watched by 98.2 million viewers in the US alone.

Given these commercials reportedly cost around $175,000 USD a second to run, brands feel comfortable spending millions of dollars to stand out from the crowd.

Of course, few industries are more competitive than automotive, which is engaged in a seemingly endless game of Super Bowl one-upmanship.

And with the game itself taking place on February 3 this year, brands like Audi, Genesis and Hyundai are generating some hype by dropping their commercials early.

Here, a breakdown of every Super Bowl car commercial that's emerged so far in 2020.

Hyundai: 'Smaht pahk'

Hyundai pokes fun at one of the most unique accents in the States – the Boston accent – with its commercial highlighting the 2020 Sonata's self-parking system.

The commercial stars celebrity Bostonians John Krasinski, Chris Evans and Rachel Dratch in a very funny skit, which sees 'Smart Park' become 'Smaht Pahk' at the hands of the distinctive Boston drawl.

Audi: 'Let it go'

British actress Maisie Williams stars in this sustainability pledge from Audi, which shows the former Game of Thrones star driving around a polluted city in an e-tron Sportback.

As she drives, Williams breaks into song, belting Let It Go from the Disney movie Frozen.

The implication? Williams appears to be trying to shut out the slow demise of the environment while enjoying the comfortable confines of her electric vehicle, guilt-free.

The commercial ends on the tagline: "Let's drive to a more sustainable future."

Genesis: 'Going away party'

Genesis employed husband-and-wife duo Chrissy Teigen, a supermodel, and John Legend, a Grammy-winning musician, to advertise its first-ever SUV, the GV80.

In the commercial, the pair are attending a stuffy 'going away party' Legend has organised in order to farewell "old luxury".

In this case, old luxury is represented by gaudy guests with plastic surgery and bad taste, who Teigen tells, "you had a good run, but it's time to zhoosh you up a bit".

She introduces "young luxury" in the form of the GV80, with Legend behind the wheel. It then ends on a cheeky in-joke about Legend's status as People magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' for 2019.

Porsche: 'The heist'

Filmed at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, Porsche's commercial sees a thief commandeer the Taycan Turbo S.

The on-duty security guards must pursue him in a high-stakes car chase using, of course, Porsche cars.

After some stunning German scenery and a peek at the new Porsche 911 GT3, it ends with a twist and the tagline: "Finally, an electric car that steals you."

Kia: 'Tough never quits'

Kia is one of the only brands so far to take a football focus, tapping rookie Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to share a message to his younger self.

Jacobs drives his younger self to football practice in the new Kia Seltos, warning his mini-me that "it's going to be hard growing up homeless, but you've gotta believe in yourself, be tougher than the world around you".

"Push yourself to be someone, and I promise someday you will."

Jeep: 'Groundhog day'

While Jeep is yet to drop its 2020 Super Bowl commercial, speculation is that the commercial will see Bill Murray recreate a scene from his beloved 1993 film Groundhog Day.

Murray was spotted filmed in the movie's original location, with Entertainment Weekly reporting he will be joined by his original co-star, Stephen Tobolowsky.

Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that this year the Super Bowl falls on Groundhog Day itself.

We know, the Superbowl hasn't actually happened yet. We'll continue updating this story as more ads are released.
