2020 Kia Rio facelift spied

Despite the large amount of disguise, the light hatch looks as though it will only get a minor nip and tuck.

An updated version of the Kia Rio hatch has been spied undergoing testing in Europe.

Given the current Rio made its debut at the 2016 Paris motor show, the city hatch is about due for its mid-cycle refresh.

Although this prototype has black cladding over its entire front end, we can see a few changes. The front bumper appears to be new, and includes a redesigned lower air intake, a new body colour section around the number plate, and redesigned fog log pods.

As is customary for mid-life refreshes, the Rio will likely be offered with some new wheel designs to go with some suspension tuning changes.

We can't make out any changes to the rear of the vehicle, but revised tail-lights are a possibility. The rear bumper seems to be carried over from today's non-GT-Line model.

Although the doors are completely covered, we don't expect Kia will be making expensive sheet metal changes for the Rio's update. At most the automaker might add rubbing strips to the side of the car.

There could changes in store for for the Rio's infotainment system, and, hopefully, more standard safety kit.

The current Australian range features a standard 74kW/133Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

For the range-topping GT-Line there's an 88kW/172Nm turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.
