2011 Toyota Verso-S to debut at Paris Motor Show

UPDATED 1:20pm with comment from Toyota Australia.

Toyota will use the upcoming 2010 Paris Motor Show to officially unveil its all-new B-segment people-mover: the 2011 Toyota Verso-S.

Toyota is keeping most of the details of the Verso-S under wraps until the Motor Show press day on September 30, but has revealed it is likely to go on sale in the UK early in 2011.

Measuring less than four metres in length, Toyota says the Verso-S will be the most compact B-segment MPV in Europe, but assures us that significant effort has gone into designing and developing a practical, flexible interior with “maximised usable space, comfort and perceived quality”.

Despite being more than 650mm shorter, the Verso-S could potentially serve as a replacement for the aging Avensis people-mover in Australia, which is getting close to 10 years old.

But a Toyota Australia spokesman confirmed that at this stage there are no plans to bring the Verso-S to Australia or any plans to replace the current model Avensis.

Local sales of the Avensis slowed in the first half of 2010 after solid years in 2008 and 2009, when Toyota Australia sold 966 and 894 units respectively. In the first seven months of the year, Toyota sold 339 Avensis’, well behind the similarly sized Honda Odyssey (817) and its big brother, the Tarago (947).

Toyota will also use the Paris Motor Show to reveal a revised interior for the compact iQ and a new multimedia system for the Aygo city car.
