Subaru issues apology over rudely-named Forester concept car

A creative mind gave a Subaru Forester concept car a name that, as an acronym, spelled out the F word.

Subaru of America has issued an apology to its dealerships across North America after a special edition Forester with a rude name was revealed at the 2020 Singapore motor show this month.

American publisher, The Drive, acquired a Subaru letter sent to dealers last Friday stating the car, named Forester Ultimate Customised Kit Special, was an “unfortunate situation” and that “Subaru of America Inc and Subaru Corporation had nothing to do with this.”

The letter went on to say “we work very hard to build a strong brand image for this company and the naming of this vehicle in no way reflects the values and standards we hold true”, and the brand apologises “for any negative feedback this may have caused.”

Dated January 10, the letter was released a day after the Singapore motor show kicked off, and explained the name was removed from the stand, but it still didn’t stop photos that were taken beforehand being uploaded to social media channels.

The rudely-named Forester received some serious modifications, including an STI interior, underbody neon lights, a body kit, and 20-inch Enkei wheels on lowered suspension.

It reportedly had a loud stereo that could be operated via a large touchscreen, and in the boot, a glass panel showed the subwoofer and amplifier. Details on its drivetrain were unavailable, but powering the production version of the Forester is a 2.5-litre 136kW/239Nm non-turbo engine.

The apology letter ended by saying "this car will not be available in the United States market".
