Electric Mustang ute rendered: What if Ford turned out a Mach-E pick-up?

A convincing, albeit speculative look at how an urban Ford Mustang electric ute could appear.

Following the 2019 reveal of Ford's electric SUV, the Mustang Mach-E, plus the confirmation of plans for an electrified version of its F-150 truck, we couldn't help but wonder: Could a more urban Mustang electric ute be on the cards?

So, we tapped our friend Theophilus Chin for some speculative renderings based on the Ford Mustang Mach-E's sleek looks.

The result? A thoroughly modern car-derived ute with all the inherent sportiness of the Mustang brand, but the practicality of an electric vehicle and the grunt of a high performance pick-up. Its creator humbly suggests it be named the 'Mustang Ut-e'.

Eagle-eyed readers may notice the CarAdvice Mustang ute has borrowed the rear window, side glass, sail plane, tonneau cover, tailgate and part of the rear bumper from the Holden Commodore VE/VF ute. We're sure Ford would come up with its own design.

If produced, the Ut-e would be a possible competitor for the Rivian R1T or Tesla's Cybertruck (although arguably far more aesthetically subtle than the latter).

Borrowing the Mach-E's long, streamlined hood, minimalist grille, panoramic windshield and black roof, the Ut-e adds a deep, lengthy tray and an angular, squared-off rear with dual-bar tail lamps.

The design calls to mind anoother upcoming car-derived urban ute, Hyundai's 2021 Santa Cruz.

With news Ford is considering making Mustang into its own sub-brand, plus the company's insistence that it won't take a "Russian doll approach" to its EVs, we're more likely to see different EV models before we see different sizes of the existing Mach-E.

So, should Ford build the Mustang Mach-E pick-up? Let us know in the comments below.
