The Mazda CX-9 family SUV has picked up a range of upgrades to kick off 2020.
All versions get a new iteration of the company's G-Vectoring software that cuts throttle input to stabilise the car in corners through weight transfer. This new system also uses brake-torque vectoring.
All-wheel drive (AWD) models get a revised Off-Road Traction Assist system that adjusts the car's stability control on slippery surfaces.
The electric parking brake also gets an Auto Hold function, a feature found on many cars, which stops the car 'creeping' if you leave the transmission in D with your foot off the brake.
Inside the CX-9, the infotainment screen has been enlarged to 9.0-inches in diameter, though the base Sport's screen is 7.0-inches.
Access to the third row has apparently "been made safer and easier" with the fitment of a more easily kid-reachable switch that tilts the middle seat forward. The third row also gets USB ports.
Safety-wise, the automatic emergency braking system has been updated to detect pedestrians in the dark.
Finally, there are revised alloy wheel colours and designs (from 18- to 20-inch depending on grade) and the adoption of the Mazda 3's new key fob design.
Higher grades also get a new electric tailgate that opens when you kick your foot below the bumper (GT and Azami) and improved Adaptive LED Headlights (Azami).
Simplifying the range, the Azami replaces the Azami LE at the top end, meaning it gets Nappa leather seats offered in Walnut Brown or Pure White.
The CX-9 remains a hit with Australian families recording 7168 sales last year, equal to 6.8 per cent market share in the super-diverse Large SUV market. Sales did drop off by 11.4 per cent though.
It remains number two among large city-focused soft-roaders, behind the Toyota Kluger 10.8 per cent share), and ahead of Holden's Acadia (3.1 per cent share).
