2020 Honda Civic Type R facelift unveiled

The updated Honda Civic Type R hatch has been revealed at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Externally, the revisions to the Civic Type R are pretty subtle. There's a larger grille for improved engine cooling, and the addition of body-colour swooshes for the fog light surround up front and the fake vents in the rear bumper.

A new exclusive colour, Boost Blue, has been added to the car's palette.

As before, the Type R is powered by a direct-injection 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 228kW and 400Nm. It drives the front wheels via a six-speed manual and a limited-slip differential.

To improve high-speed braking and reduce fade the company has fitted new two-piece discs to the Type R. It has also retuned the dampers for a more comfortable ride, stiffened the rear bushing for improved grip, and altered the front suspension for more steering feel.

Also new is an Active Sound Control system, which modifies in the interior sound to fit with one of the three drive modes (Comfort, Sport and +R).

For the interior there's a new steering wheel wrapped in fake suede, a restyled gear knob and shorter throws for the manual transmission.

In the US, the revised Civic Type R will come standard with the Honda Sensing safety package, which includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, and road departure mitigation.
