Kia Imagine to enter production in 2021/22

The eye-catching Kia Imagine concept revealed at the Geneva motor show will be put into production in 2021 or 2022, according to a new report from Automotive News Europe.

Speaking with the industry journal, Kia COO Emilio Herrera said "the plan is for [the Imagine] to become a mass-produced vehicle in one or two years and to have a dedicated electric platform".

When it was revealed, the Imagine by Kia promised the performance of a Stinger in a Toyota Corolla-sized footprint, complete with zero emissions.

Although no details were offered about the car's electric powertrain, the cabin featured a dramatic infotainment and instrument system with 21 individual displays curving across the dash.

According to Ralph Kluge, Kia Motors Europe’s general manager of interior design, the "21 incredibly thin screens are a humorous and irreverent riposte to the on-going competition between some automotive manufacturers to see who can produce the car with the biggest screen".

Externally, the styling borrows details from the Stinger, with a chrome strip running through the roofline and slim taillight elements extending into the rear bodywork.

A single sheet of glass has been used for the windscreen and roof, like a more dramatic take on the Tesla Model X's larger-than-average screen.
