2020 Nissan Leaf revealed for Japan

Nissan has revealed a raft of small updates for its electric Leaf hatchback in Japan, but they haven't been confirmed for Australia.

The 2020 Leaf, which lobs during February in Japan, will gain an updated ProPilot semi-autonomous driver assist suite to "reduce driver fatigue and stress".

Compared to the current system, Nissan says the updated adaptive cruise control system can better keep its speed on hills, and more smoothly adjust the motor's power when the road levels out again. The system has been adapted from the latest Serena people mover.

Nissan also says the Leaf's automatic parking software is now 20 per cent faster, and the car's blind-spot monitoring has been upgraded so it can automatically steer away from an impending lane-change collision.

The 8.0-inch touchscreen on the car we get in Australia has been replaced with a 9.0-inch unit, and the Leaf can be hooked up to a Nissan app that shows charge levels, the car's locked/unlocked status, and where it is.

Two new colours – Vivid Blue and Stealth Grey – have been added to the palette. No changes have been made to the car's powertrain, however.

Will the updated Leaf come to Australia?

Nissan hasn't confirmed if the updated Leaf will make the journey to Australia. It also offered no update on whether the longer-range Leaf E-Plus will come to our market.
