Video: Porsche and LucasFilm reveal collaborative Star Wars ship design

If you've ever wondered how involved a celebrity is with the formulation of their namesake scent or clothing line, today's unveiling might have you wondering the same of the designers at Porsche & Disney.

You might wonder if the background to this new collaboratively designed 'Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter', created to promote the upcoming film Star Wars Episode VIII: The Rise of Skywalker, saw the experienced LucasFilm crew send a handful of sketches to the Porsche team for sign-off.

Less cynically, I wonder if this might be our best look yet at what a Porsche stylist would turn out if not restrained by decades of 'do it again but fresher' design.

Regardless, it's clear if there is anything iconically Porsche about this very Star Warsian design, it's best identified by the citizens of a galaxy quite a ways away – although you'll find a set of Taycan-like lights at the rear tip of each engine, with Porsche's now familiar four-point daytime running lights in each.

What else? Well…

"The basic shape of the cabin, which tapers towards the rear, and a highly distinctive topography from the cockpit fly line to the turbines establish visual parallels with the iconic design of the 911 and the Taycan," according to Michael Maur, Porsche's Vice President for Styling.

Now that you say it, sure. Whatever the case, there's no denying it's a fast-looking thing, and it clearly has that in common with the best of Porsche.

The obvious question, though: how quickly can it do the Kessel Run?
