Louis Camilleri, the Ferrari CEO, has poured cold water on the idea of an electric Ferrari, at least in the short term.
Speaking to media outlets, including Reuters, Camilleri said, "My sense is the electric [model] will come out after 2025".
The key factor holding back an electric prancing horse is the fact "battery technology is not where it should be yet", which means there are "significant issues in terms of autonomy, [and] in terms of speed of recharging".
The CEO stated the company is "certainly" studying a pure electric grand tourer.
Ferrari will stick with developing hybrid models for the "current foreseeable future". The company currently has a target of achieving 60 per cent of its sales from electrified models by 2022.
The company launched its first plug-in hybrid model, the SF90 Stradale, earlier this year. Its drivetrain, featuring a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and three electric motors, develops a total of 735kW of power.
Capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 2.5 seconds, and hitting a top speed of 340km/h, the SF90 can also be driven on electric power alone for up to 25 kilometres and at speeds up to 135km/h.
