Jaguar I-Pace gains 20km of range via software update

Jaguar I-Pace owners are being encouraged to take their electric crossovers into their nearest dealership to improve the driving range.

According to the company, the update will improve normal driving range by up to 20 kilometres, although there's no change to the car's official 470km range rating using the WLTP standard.

Jaguar says it has taken insights from its I-Pace eTrophy race series, as well as 80 million kilometres of real-world driving data, to make adjustments to five systems in the crossover.

The automaker states the updated battery controller allows the car to run on a lower state of charge "without affecting drivability, durability or performance", while the all-wheel drive system has improved efficiency in Eco mode, although permanent AWD is still present.

After the update, the I-Pace will also use its active radiator vane system more frequently, and the regenerative brakes have been recalibrated to harvest more energy.

The on-board range calculator has also been improved, and is said to be more reflective of the owner's driving style.

In addition to improved driving range, the software update also enables an improved over-the-air update system, meaning more in-car functionality can be upgraded without a trip to the dealership or service centre.

Being a software-only update, there are no physical changes to the I-Pace's 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
