Around the Tracks: Looking rich, model cars, and selling the STI

Plus, a Toyota Corolla carrying a 5.0-litre hiding under its bonnet.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the articles, videos and social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand-new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

Why The 2019 Subaru STI S209 Is A Pain To Even Sell In America - Justin T. Westbrook, Jalopnik

The first S-badged special-edition Subaru WRX STI to hit North America might just look like a faster, more hardcore version of the dependable all-paw hero we have known for years.

However, as Justin T. Westbrook explains, getting it certified for sale in the United States was a lengthy process involving confused government bodies, complex crash testing and a whole load of money.

Looking Rich On A Tight Budget Challenge - Car Throttle, YouTube

Car Throttle is back at it with another cheap car challenge, this time looking for the best image-booster for the least outlay.

We won’t spoil the outcome.

Toy story: the wonderful world of model cars - John Evans, Autocar

Autocar takes a nostalgic dive into the realm of vintage model cars, with everything from cool Corgis to mini Matchboxes.

Tested: This 1969 Toyota Corolla Has a Lexus V-8-Sized Secret - Miguel Cortina, Motor Trend

This isn’t any normal 1960s Toyota Corolla. Under the bonnet is a hulking 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 lifted from a 2010 Lexus ISF, producing 310kW of power and 503Nm of torque.

Fitting the eight-speed automatic and Lexus driveline wasn’t easy - the Toyota’s dimensions had to be significantly modified to facilitate the swap. Sadly - for most - the IS’ modern ABS and traction control systems couldn’t be carried over, so the Corolla is certainly a handful.
