Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer limited edition arrives in Australian showrooms

The Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer edition may not be the Dodge Charger that diehard V8 fans are waiting for, but this is the next best thing.

Chrysler has put the finishing touches on a limited run of 50 examples of the 300 SRT Pacer edition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Valiant Pacer.

And Drive can reveal this is not the end of the road for the 300 SRT, with Chrysler Australia confirming its performance sedan will continue into the new year after the limited editions are sold out.

“The limited edition Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer (is) a celebration of the 50th Anniversary milestone of the iconic Valiant Pacer. Beyond this, the Chrysler 300 will continue to be available in Australia,” said a spokesperson for Chrysler Australia.

While there is no more power from the 6.4-litre Hemi V8 (350kW/637Nm), there’s plenty of Pacer badging to pay homage to the original from 1969.

The Valiant Pacer had mixed success on the track against the might of Holden and Ford in the late 1960s and early 1970s but, 50 years on, it has ended up being the last affordable sports sedan available in Australia from the Big Three.

The V8 Holden Commodores and high-performance Ford Falcons are long gone, and while the Mustang coupe soldiers on for Blue Oval fans, the Chrysler 300 SRT remains the last performance sedan standing among them.

The Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer editions will be available in three colours: white, black and grey and each will be individually numbered.

Priced from $69,950 plus on-road costs, the 300 SRT Pacer edition slots between the 300 SRT Core ($65,950) and the flagship model ($74,950).

Customers will also receive a limited-edition framed tribute print and an exclusive Pacer keyring.

The print has an image of an original Valiant Pacer and the Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer tribute edition in front of the former Chrysler factory in Adelaide (pictured below). Each print includes the individual build plate of the corresponding vehicle.

“Marking the 50th anniversary of the much loved Valiant Pacer, we’re excited to celebrate such a milestone with this limited edition car – a revival of the Pacer nameplate for Australian motoring enthusiasts,” Guillaume Drelon, Director of Product, Chrysler Australia, said in a media statement.

“This is truly a modern take on an Australian classic and we’re excited to bring the Pacer back in this exclusive run of fantastic looking vehicles.”

The Chrysler 300 SRT Pacer gains ‘Pacer 392’ decals, a nod to the 6.4-litre Hemi’s capacity in old-school cubic inches.

An individually numbered build plate is fitted in the engine bay. Unique to each vehicle, the build plate corresponds to the production number of each example built.

Inside, the limited edition gains ‘Pacer 392’ sill covers and floor mats. The centre console is decorated with a special edition plaque.

The decals and other add-ons are fitted locally before the cars are trucked to dealers. The first of the 50 vehicles are due in showrooms in late 2019 and early 2020.
