2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio updates revealed

The refreshed Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio have been unveiled at the 2019 Los Angeles motor show.

The biggest changes to Alfa's flagship models have taken place in the cabin. As an earlier leak indicated, both the Stelvio and Giulia now have a heavily revised infotainment system, which not only features a larger 8.8-inch display, but also touchscreen functionality.

Thanks to its wider screen and new interface, the infotainment home screen can be customised with horizontal line of widgets for the car's various systems, including navigation, media, phone and clime control.

Ahead of the driver, there's also a new 7.0-inch display nestled between the analogue instruments. Both of the new screens will be standard-for Giulias and Stelvios sold in Europe and the USA.

The automaker has worked to make the interior feel more premium, including a new leather-wrapped gear shifter, a new steering wheel, and improved knob designs.

Other changes include a revised centre console with a larger storage bin, a new wireless smartphone charging pad, and an Italian tri-colour flag, just in case you've forgotten where Alfa comes from.

The Giulia and Stelvio are now available with lane-keeping assist, active blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, highway assist, and driver attention monitoring.

In the right conditions, the updated sedan and crossover are capable of Level 2 autonomous driving, which means the car can steer, accelerate and brake by itself so long as the driver remains alert and keeps their hand on their steering wheel.

Externally there's very little to distinguish the updated cars from their forebears.

On the Stelvio, changes include the availability of body colour or 'Dark Miron' highlights for the wheel arch flares, side sills and lower rear fascia on the higher-end sports models.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio can be now specified with a carbon-fibre finish for the grille and wing mirror caps in the USA, too.

For the Giulia, the changes seem limited to some new paint options — such as Anodised Blue, Lunare White and Verde Visconti Metallic — most of which are also new to the Stelvio.

No details about regarding the V6-powered Quadrifoglio models have been announced, but the Stelvio and Giulia's selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are carried over unchanged.

When will the updated Stelvio and Giulia arrive in Australia?

Alfa Romeo hasn't confirmed, but says it will update timing and spec information in the new year.
