Revised liftback features new headlights and front fascia, but fewer changes to the rear and interior.

The facelifted Opel Insignia, which is sold Down Under as the Holden Commodore, has been spied during testing on public on roads.

While earlier development vehicles sported a heavy plastic camouflage up front, these latest cars are only fitted with a bit of disguise tape.

As with the Chinese market Buick Regal leaked last month, the updated Insignia — and on current form the revised Commodore too — will have new headlight units incorporating Opel's latest driving light spear.

The grille has also been altered with a new insert and a thinner chrome bar to tie more closely to the new Opel Corsa. At the rear, the main change seems to be trapezoidal exhaust tips.

Our photography agency also managed to nab some pictures of the Insignia GSi (below), which should, once again, share its design, if not its powertrain, with the V6 Commodore VXR.

From what can see here, the GSi/VXR models will be distinguished from their less sporting siblings by a more aggressive side intakes in the front bumper. The GSi prototype also features a new alloy wheel design.

It's unclear if the Insignia will be fitted with updated drivetrains. Even if there are new engines, they may not make the journey to Australia.

There are no major changes to the Insignia's cabin, with trim upgrades and some extra equipment the most likely modifications.
