2020 Mini JCW GP to debut in LA

The hottest-ever Mini will make its debut at the Los Angeles motor show, with 220kW running through the front wheels.

Mini will finally unveil the third-generation John Cooper Works GP at the Los Angeles motor show, packing a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine making at least 225kW.

When it launches, the GP promises to be the fastest-ever road-going Mini. It's the latest in a line of pared-back, track-ready special editions, with production limited to just 3000 units.

According to Mini, the previous-generation JCW GP lapped the Nurburgring in 8:23.00, but the new model has already dipped below eight minutes.

Expect to see a set of "large alloy wheels", a more aggressive body kit, and a large roof-mounted rear spoiler.

The engine will breathe through a set of centre-mounted exhaust pipes, while the car's wheel arches appear to have an aerodynamic role of some sort...

Previous GP models have gone without rear seats, a trait which could well carry over to the car you see here.

Along with the JCW GP, Mini will use the Los Angeles motor show to give its Cooper SE electric vehicle its North American debut.

The Los Angeles motor show kicks off next week. Stay tuned for more from the show floor.
