2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid ‘GT’ Coupe spied

Porsche looks to be readying an even faster take on its biggest SUV, complete with GT3-inspired central exhaust pipes.

Darcy Foster • A hardcore version of Porsche’s Cayenne Coupe has been spied testing at the Nurburgring.

Hiding under the guise of a Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe, the model is believed to be a prototype of an incoming ‘RS Coupe’ potentially with upwards of 600kW.

At first glance, pictures depict a regular Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe.

But upon further inspection of the rear, Porsche seems to have sneakily hidden a pair of central exhaust pipes in the rear diffuser, rendering the two outer exhausts purely cosmetic.

A vinyl wrap has also been applied in an attempt to mask the update.

If rumours are to be true, the new ‘RS Coupe’ would sit above Porsche's current range-topping SUV, the Turbo S E-Hybrid, which is powered by a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, producing a combined 500kW and 900Nm of torque.

This development comes as Volkswagen Group stablemate Lamborghini is working on a track-oriented variant of the Urus SUV, potentially wearing the ‘Performante’ moniker debuted on the Huracan.

Automobile reports a more focused Urus could be in the works based on an interview with Maurizio Reggiani, the brand's chief technical director.

The Urus ST-X concept might be exclusively for the racetrack at the moment, but it also offers a hint at what can be done with the MLB Evo platform underpinning the Cayenne Coupe.

If rumours are to be believed, a mighty squabble in the performance SUV segment between Sant’Agata Bolognese and Stuttgart may be on the horizon.
