2020 Audi A1 scores 5-star ANCAP rating

German marque's latest city-sized hatchbacks nabs five-star result in safety tests.

ANCAP has awarded the new-generation Audi A1 a five-star safety rating, making it the first light car to score top marks against the strict 2019 criteria.

Based on tests carried out by sister firm Euro NCAP earlier this year, the new A1 scored an impressive 95 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 88 per cent before Child Occupant Protection, 73 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 82 per cent for Safety Assist.

"It is encouraging to see vehicle brands prioritise collision avoidance capabilities across their model line-ups, including the smaller city cars which mix regularly with pedestrians and cyclists in addition to other vehicles," said James Goodwin, CEO for ANCAP.

"This is an impressive score for a vehicle in the Light Car category."

ANCAP's five-star safety rating applies to all variants of the A1 in Australia and New Zealand.

Pricing in Australia kicks off at $32,350 plus on-road costs for the entry-level A1 30 TFSI. You can read our pricing and specifications breakdown here.
