2020 BMW M8 Competition pricing and specs

BMW M's biggest, baddest two-door will be here in the first quarter of 2020, with pricing to start just north of $350,000 before on-road costs.

BMW Australia has announced pricing for its fastest-ever M car, the M8 Competition, ahead of its arrival Down Under in the first quarter of 2020.

Priced from $352,900 before on-road costs, the M8 Competition is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 460kW and 750Nm.

It puts power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the M xDrive all-wheel drive system is rear-biased in normal mode, but can be locked into pure rear-wheel drive mode should the driver want to make things all smokey.

Along with the active all-wheel drive system, the rear axle is home to an Active M Differential that can shuffle torque between the rear wheels depending on where the grip is.

The rear suspension is a double-wishbone setup at the front, while the rear features a reinforced five-link design. BMW says the chassis and suspension have been inspired by the M8 GTE racer, and is particularly keen to highlight the fact there's 1.2 degrees of negative camber on the front axle.

You'll be doing 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds, and top speed is 305km/h. Although BMW M specific brakes are standard, a set of carbon-ceramic stoppers ($16,500) is available as an option.

Inside, the M8 comes with M Sport Seats trimmed in leather – full leather and Merino trim are available – with a choice of carbon-fibre or piano black for the dash and transmission tunnel trim. Niceties like soft-close doors and an electric bootlid are also standard.

Externally, the car rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and wears a carbon-fibre roof as standard. The M Carbon Exterior Package ($10,300) adds the lightweight weave to the front apron, mirror caps, rear spoiler and rear diffuser.
