Ssangyong Korando EV to offer 420km range – report
More details about the Korean brand's pure-electric crossover have emerged from Europe.
Ssangyong has revealed details about its first pure-electric vehicle, the Korando E100 mid-sized SUV, ahead of its reveal in the first half of 2021.
Power in the EV crossover will come from a motor making 140kW to deliver "best in class" acceleration, according to a new report in Auto Express. It's mated with a 61.5kWh battery pack from LG, good for 420km of range on the more lenient NEDC test cycle.
That puts it around 30km behind the Hyundai Kona Electric, although the Korando is a bigger car compared its rather compact fellow South Korean rival.
Ssangyong has previously claimed the electric crossover will be capable of towing a caravan when it launches, although braked towing capacity hasn't been confirmed.
In what appears to be a move to preserve range, the top speed is limited to 150km/h – not that it's relevant to Australia.
Ssangyong has previously expressed interest in getting the upcoming Korando Hybrid (which is expected to follow the EV) to Australia, but it hasn't committed to the pure-electric car.
"The future is eventually going to be EV, but it's going to take a change of will in the Australian people," a Ssangyong representative told CarAdvice earlier this year.
