Ford ‘stop sale’ on 2.0-litre turbo diesel continues, no word when it will be lifted

Ford Australia does not know how long it will take to fix a problem with more than 2000 vehicles equipped with single-turbo and twin-turbo versions of its 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine.

A fault with the high-pressure fuel injectors on the EcoBlue family of turbo diesel engines has forced Ford to stop delivery of 2115 cars across the Ranger dual-cab ute, seven-seat Everest SUV, large Endura SUV, Transit and Transit Custom van line-ups.

Drive understands the Ranger accounts for more than a quarter of the vehicles affected. While some of the affected cars are still with dealers, a number have already been delivered to customers.

"Our number one priority is to keep all of our customers moving" a Ford Australia spokesperson told Drive.

"Therefore, we are prioritising the repair for customers who have experienced the issue, including providing them a courtesy loan vehicle while their vehicle is being repaired."

According to Ford, the problem stems from a batch of high-pressure fuel injectors from Continental, and could create a misfire in the engine of affected cars.

Affected vehicles are fitted with engines built between February 2 and August 6, 2019.

"The issue has been traced to a batch of high-pressure injectors supplied by Continental that do not meet specification. The issue could lead to a misfire and reduced engine performance in affected vehicles," the spokesperson told Drive.

"Any customer experiencing issues with their vehicle are encouraged to visit their dealer or call 13 FORD (133 673)."

Although the issue requires a dealership fix, the work isn't considered a safety recall because it doesn't cause a sudden loss of power. Instead, it's a "dealer-notified service action".

Vehicles built in the following date ranges are included in the stop sale:

  • Endura: February 25 - August 6
  • Everest: April 27 - September 17
  • Ranger: May 2 - July 10
  • Transit: March 20 - May 23
  • Transit Custom: March 12 - July 10
