Donkervoort D8 GTO-JD70 revealed

Designed to celebrate the Donkervoort founder's birthday, the D8 GTO-JD70 will pull 2G in the corners.

Donkervoort has revealed an impressive 70th birthday present for its founder, Joop Donkervoort, in the form of a sub-700kg supercar killer.

The D8 GTO-JD70 is powered by a 2.5-litre five-cylinder Audi Sport engine, 'optimised' by the boffins at Donkervoort to make 415hp (309kW) and 520Nm. There's a side exhaust system, which should free up plenty of angry five-cylinder noise as well.

Although it's designed to dominate on the track, the D8 GTO-JD70 is also compliant with Euro-6D emissions rules and emits 198g/km of CO2 on the combined cycle.

According to the company, the GTO-JD70 has a redesigned nose and wheel covers, revised louvres on the front wheel arches, and a fresh rear diffuser.

Thanks to the upgraded aerodynamics, Donkervoort says the celebratory D8 will pull a neck-straining 2.0G in corners.

Weighing in at less than 700kg, more than 95 per cent of the GTO-JD70's bodywork will be carbon-fibre. There's also a lightweight lithium-ion battery, which helps save 7kg over the stock unit.

In keeping with the car's race-ready focus, the seats are made of carbon-fibre and the steering wheel is a carbon quick release unit.

The suspension features adjustable anti-roll bars at both ends, and three-mode adjustable shock absorbers.

Pricing for the D8 GTO-JD70 will start at €163,636.36 ($265,850) before European taxes.
