Ford Mustang-inspired electric crossover teased ahead of November debut

New EV will make its debut next month before going on sale in the US and Europe from next year.

Ford has teased the side profile and some of the design elements for its upcoming Mustang-inspired electric crossover.

The new crossover will be Ford's first dedicated pure-electric vehicle, and will be simultaneously unveiled across the globe on November 17, US time.

Little is known about the new Mustang-inspired crossover EV, except it will have a driving range of around 595 kilometres under the WLTP standard.

After it was reported the company was considering using the Mach 1 name for the EV, there was a substantial online backlash as the Mach 1 name is associated with high-performance Mustangs.

The company has since gone on to register the name Mach-E, which plays to both the car's Mustang-inspired styling and its electric underpinnings.

When it goes on sale in the US next year, the new electric crossover will be able to access a charging network with 12,000 public locations and over 35,000 charging points.

The new EV will support 120V and 240V outlets as standard, while owners can also opt to install Ford's Connected Charge Station at their homes.

Ford will follow up the Mach-E, or whatever it's called, with at least a further 15 EVs, including an all-electric variant of the next-generation F-150 pickup truck, and one, or possibly more, model for Europe based on the Volkswagen Group's dedicated EV platform, dubbed MEB.

It is also developing China-only models in conjunction with local manufacturer Zotye.

Reports indicate Ford is also readying a high performance variant of the new Mustang-inspired EV.
