2020 BMW 4 Series front-end leaked

BMW has suffered another leak from the factory floor, and this time it's the as-yet unreleased 2020 4 Series – and it has the same giant grille as the Concept 4.

Published on Bimmerpost and shared on Reddit, the images seem confirm what the Concept 4 has suggested: a longer, more prominent grille will dominate the front end.

It's tough to discern much else from the picture, which was clearly snapped in a hurry. But it looks like BMW has toned down the aggression of the Concept 4's lights and bumper for production, while the bonnet no longer meets the top of the grille – instead, it ends horizontally.

Under the skin, the new 4 Series will share its CLAR underpinnings and interior with the latest 3 Series. This should make it lighter than the current model, which tends to do good things for handling.

A plug-in hybrid model is also likely. Rear- and all-wheel drive will be offered, along with a choice of coupe, convertible, and five-door Gran Coupe bodies.

Expect a range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines to underpin the core range, while the M4 will be powered by the same 'S58' 3.0-litre inline-six used in the X3 M Competition.

We know BMW is also preparing an all-electric i4, which from earlier spy photos looks to be a lightly restyled 4 Series Gran Coupe.

BMW hasn't set a release date for the new 4 Series, but a reveal late this year or early in 2020 seems likely.
