Hyundai HDC-6 Neptune teased

The Hyundai HDC-6 Neptune fuel-cell truck has been teased ahead of its release at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta.

Hyundai has positioned itself as a leader alongside Toyota in the hydrogen fuel-cell world. It currently offers the Nexo fuel-cell crossover overseas, and will be bringing 20 to Australian roads as part of a trial involving Canberra government staff.

“Hydrogen is the ultimate solution. With renewable energy, we can create the hydrogen,” Hyundai vice chairman of research and development, Yang Woong-Chul, told CarAdvice at the Nexo's launch.

The race to develop hydrogen fuel-cell trucks has been hotting up in the USA, where startup Nikola Motors has been working to develop the 'One'.

Claimed range for the hydrogen One was between 1287 and 1931km, with six electric motors outputting 745kW and 1475Nm combined.

Hyundai hasn't released details about its HDC-6 Neptune yet, beyond claiming it'll have a modern design drawing "inspiration from the streamliner railway train sets of the 1930s with its Art Deco function-driven style".

Along with the truck body, Hyundai will use the truck show to show off a new eco-friendly refrigerated trailer to accompany it.
