2020 Alpina B3 sedan revealed in Tokyo

The wagon has been confirmed for Australia, now the sedan has been revealed. The engine is the same, but the body has changed.

Alpina has added a sedan to its B3 line-up in Tokyo, bringing all-wheel drive, inline-six power and loads of luxury to the three-box 3 Series.

The new B3 sedan has the same fundamentals as the Touring. That means power comes from an S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six (the same engine that'll be used in the new M3) making 340kW and 700Nm, put to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The transmission has been tweaked with Alpina's own shift logic and uprated internals.

Thanks to the heavily breathed-on engine, the B3 will hit 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds – or 3.9 seconds in case of the Touring. The car tops out at 303km/h.

Under the skin, the B3 gets a set of fully adaptive dampers and larger stabiliser bars designed to keep things rock solid as the speedo swings past 300km/h. Eibach springs have also been fitted.

Along with the standard BMW Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus, the B3 is fitted with a Comfort Plus mode with a softer ride and more relaxed body control.

Behind those gorgeous Alpina wheels hide a set of 395mm front and 345mm rear brake discs coupled with four-piston fixed calipers. Drilled discs and uprated calipers are available as an option.

Along with the wheels, you'll be able to tell the B3 apart from regular 3 Series models by looking for a deep front splitter, new side skirts, and its more aggressive rear diffuser with quad pipes.

Inside, Alpina has treated the 3er to the usual range of upgrades. That means new, unique displays in the digital instrument binnacle, a build plaque on the dashboard, and lashings of luxurious leather.

You also get a build plate on the transmission tunnel, to help highlight the fact this is a bit more unique than a regular 3 Series.

Australia

Alpina has expressed interest in bringing the B3 sedan to Australia late in 2020, but nothing has been confirmed. Should it make the trip, pricing and specification details will be revealed later in 2020.
