2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, CLA, GLA recalled

Over 260 compact Benzes could have loose airbag fittings, posing a hazard should the unit detach while driving.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 2019 model-year A-Class, CLA and GLA vehicles over concerns one of the airbags could detach while driving.

"The four lock nuts for fastening the airbag may have been installed incorrectly," the company says in its recall notice.

If the condition occurs, Mercedes-Benz warns "the airbag may detach from the base plate and enter into the vehicle interior at high speed, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of an accident".

A total of 268 vehicles are affected across the three compact model lines, sold between 1 April 2019 through 30 September 2019 – the VIN list for these units is available here.

Owners should contact their preferred dealer to arrange for the inspection and repair of their vehicle, free of charge.

The original recall notice is also accessible here.
