2020 BMW M4 Convertible spied

Spy photographers have gotten a closer look at the 2020 BMW M4 Convertible.

The wild BMW M4 Convertible has been captured near its natural habitat, the Nürburgring.

If you’re looking to see if the Concept 4’s controversial grille is there, don’t bother. The folks at BMW have heavily camouflaged the front-end of the hi-po convertible. We’ll just have to keep wondering.

What is visible is the M4 (and 4 Series) convertible’s new top. The mass extinction of folding metal roofs continues, the new drop-top using a soft-top like rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz. This will likely reduce weight and increase boot space.

We can also see the new F83 M4 and G23 4 Series and M4 convertibles, like the G30 3 Series sedan, will be a relatively subtle visual evolution of the current models.

Either the M4 tester has pre-production taillights or the M4 will adopt clear-lens taillights as a way to distinguish itself from lesser 4 Series models.

As we’ve previously reported, the upcoming M3 and M4 will use the new S58 turbocharged inline six with between 375kW and 400kW, depending on the variant.

The M3 and M4 will switch from a dual-clutch automatic to a torque-converter automatic but three-pedal fans will be delighted to know a manual transmission will continue to be offered. They’ll also be available with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

The M3 and M4 are expected to debut at next year’s Geneva motor show.
