2021 Nissan X-Trail spied inside and out

Nissan's long-coming new-gen X-Trail has been spied in heavy camouflage, but the Juke influences are clear.

New spy photos of the upcoming 2021 Nissan X-Trail reveal the mid-sized SUV will upsize the styling features of the recently revealed 2020 Nissan Juke.

That means we can expect more of the 'V-motion' grille that has dominated the face of Nissan models for some time now, matched to the high-set slim daytime light design that has become popular over the past decade.

But, where the Juke features an almost trademark circular design to its main driving lights, the new 2021 Nissan X-Trail will retain a more conventional rectangular shape to its headlights.

The evolved X-Trail and Juke-inspired looks continue through the profile with the glasshouse coming to a sharp point at the D-pillar, while long tail lights wrap around the rear quarter panel and into the tailgate.

Inside is where the revolution occurs, with a wide (if heavily bezelled) tablet-style display set above physical controls for infotainment and air-conditioning.

A full digital display sits nestled behind a new steering wheel design, while, in the centre console, a short and compact gear shifter and rotary drive mode controller (we presume) are all that can be seen through a fabric cover.

Engine options for the new X-Trail will likely vary by market, and it may be that Australia will again be offered a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine.

If we're lucky, we could also see Nissan's 2.0-litre variable-compression turbo petrol engine – which first appeared in the new Infiniti QX50 SUV, and then the new Nissan Altima.

A CVT automatic transmission is likely, along with front- and all-wheel drive configurations.

The X-Trail (known in the US as the Rogue) is the best-selling SUV in the world, according to data group JATO. The current model has been in production since 2013, having been given a key facelift in 2017.

Watch for more on the new X-Trail to surface in the months ahead, with an unveiling likely to occur sometime in 2020.
