2020 Alpina B3 Touring confirmed for Australia

Alpina's hard-charging 3 Series wagon is bound for Australian shores, set to touch down in the second half of 2020.

Alpina will bring the B3 Touring to Australia during the second half of 2020, offering enough power to scare M3 Competition drivers in a practical wagon body.

Based on the regular 3 Series Touring, the B3 Touring is powered by an 'S58' 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engine making 340kW and 700Nm.

That means it's actually the first 3 Series to get the M3's new engine, although BMW M has already slotted its uprated motor into the X3 and X4 M. Grunt put to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, tweaked with Alpina's own shift logic and uprated internals.

In keeping with its comfort-focused remit, Alpina doesn't quote a 100km/h sprint time. It does, however, say the B3 Touring will pull beyond 300km/h at full noise in Sport+, making it ("probably") the "fastest estate car of its kind".

Also in keeping with the comfort-focused branding, the B3 gets fully adaptive dampers and larger stabiliser bars to keep things rock solid as the speedo swings beyond a triple century, and Eibach springs. Along with the standard Sport and Comfort modes, the B3 Touring will get a softer Comfort+ mode.

Brakes measuring 395mm at the front and 345mm at the rear coupled with four-piston fixed calipers are standard, drilled discs and uprated pads are optional.

They hide behind a set of 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, available in either 'Dynamic' or 'Classic' designs. They work with a deep front splitter, new side skirts, and a more aggressive rear diffuser (featuring quad pipes) to separate the B3 Touring from more mundane 3 Series models.

Inside, Alpina has treated the 3er to the usual range of upgrades. That means new, unique displays in the digital instrument binnacle, a build plaque on the dashboard, and lashings of luxurious leather.

Boot space with the rear seats in place is 500L, with them folded it expands to 1510L.

Local pricing for the B3 Touring will be revealed closer to launch in 2020.
