The Nissan Terra is no closer to being introduced in Australia – in this generation or beyond – because the cost to upgrade it to meet local standards is for now deemed prohibitively expensive.
When asked about the future of the Nissan Terra locally, the boss of Nissan Australia Stephen Lester said: “No update at the moment on Terra. No plans right now on a launch date for Australia, certainly for the current version and future iterations. It’s still in the background at the moment.”
When asked why it couldn’t be easily adapted to meet local safety standards, Mr Lester said: “There are a variety of reasons at the moment. Not being (included) on the program from the beginning is proving very difficult for us to cover off any investment. The markets where Terra does exist today are very different from our market and therefore there are also some existing challenges (than) simply... importing them.”
