The Alfa Romeo Tonale has been leaked ahead of its expected debut next year.

These photos, which we believe were first posted on AutoPareri forums, show a vehicle very closely related to the Tonale concept shown at this year's Geneva motor show in March.

The overall shape and silhouette, as well as the hidden rear door handles, of the concept are carried over to production car.

Notable changes include taller head- and tail-lights, pull-out front door handles, proper wing mirrors, and smaller wheels.

Allcarnews has also posted a picture to its Instagram account, which it claims shows the production Tonale's interior.

If this photo proves to be accurate, the Tonale will have a cabin design heavily influenced by the larger Giulia and Stelvio, and will include a fully digital instrumentation display, a free-standing widescreen infotainment screen, and a dashboard with contrasting colour sections.

It's worth noting neither the Giulia or Stelvio currently feature a digital instrument binnacle, suggesting the current Alfa line-up could be treated to a technology upgrade when it comes time for a mid-life facelift.

When the Tonale goes into production it will become the brand's entry-level model, competing in the fast-growing compact SUV segment.

Based on the concept, expect to see a range of compact turbocharged petrol engines and a hybrid of some variety. Unlike the larger Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover, which use a rear- and all-wheel drive platform, the Tonale will utilise the same front- and all-wheel drive architecture as the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X.

The production version of the Tonale is expected to debut in the middle of 2020 before going on sale in Europe towards the end of the year.
