2020 Skoda Octavia scheduled for reveal on November 11 – report

Next-gen mid-sizer to be launched in a month's time, with an Australian release earmarked for 'early 2021'.

The next-gen Skoda Octavia was previously thought to be slated for launch at last month's Frankfurt motor show, but the German auto event ended without the Czech brand revealing its new mid-sizer.

Now, a report out of Spain claims the long-running nameplate will debut in its next iteration on November 11.

According to Autobild.es (translated by Carscoops) Skoda is planning to hold a standalone reveal event during the first half of next month, though doesn't cite an official source.

In saying that, Skoda's CEO, Bernhard Maier, has promised the new-generation Octavia will debut before the end of the year.

The all-new Octavia will share its updated MQB underpinnings with the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf and the next-gen Audi A3, unofficially dubbed 'MQB Evo'.

Volkswagen's push towards wider electrification means the new set of MQB models will likely feature 48V mild hybrid tech across the range in Europe, with plug-in hybrid versions also a strong possibility.

The Octavia is expected to grow even larger in its next iteration, which should make it a fully-fledged 'medium' car closer to a VW Passat rather than a Golf. With that said, the Octavia will likely utilise the smaller capacity and lower output engine set of the Golf rather than the Passat.

Liftback and 'Combi' wagon versions will be offered once more, brimming with the latest infotainment and driver assistance technology the company has to offer. Think a fully digital cockpit, Level 2 autonomous capability, and wider use of LED lighting technology.

Spy photos of a camouflaged prototype in July showed a glimpse of the new Octavia's cabin, which appears to take heavy inspiration from the cockpit of the upcoming Scala hatchback and Kamiq crossover – employing a more minimalistic approach to physical switchgear and relocating the infotainment display to the top of the dashboard in floating tablet style.

The 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit driver's display will likely offer more menus and personalisation options, while it's expected the central infotainment display will grow beyond the current 9.2-inch flagship and offer online services including the company's new "Hey, Laura" virtual assistant.

Skoda's local division has also indicated it's expecting the new Octavia to land early in 2021, a few months after the all-new VW Golf arrives during the fourth quarter of 2019.

Further details will come to light at the Octavia's official launch, so stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage.
