2020 Toyota C-HR revealed for Europe with 2.0L hybrid

Facelifted compact SUV for the EU gets more powerful engine option, revised looks, and new infotainment.

Toyota Europe has revealed its version of the facelifted 2020 C-HR crossover this week, complete with a rejigged design, a new infotainment system, and the option of a more powerful hybrid powertrain.

Stylistically the C-HR has "received detailed attention" at the front and rear to bring "refinement to this iconic vehicle", while a painted lower lip on the front bumper "reinforces the dynamic figure with a strong, wide and elevated stance".

The headlights and tail-lights have been upgraded with "premium" LED units, with the front indicators and LED daytime-running lights fused into one.

At the rear, the revised LED tail-lights are connected via a gloss black spoiler "creating a single clean shape".

Like the updated model confirmed for Australia in December, the Euro-market 2020 C-HR also gains a new infotainment system which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Under the skin, the C-HR now offers the option of Toyota's 2.0-litre 'Dynamic Force' petrol-electric hybrid system, already seen in the Euro-market Corolla range and the related Lexus UX250h.

The larger engine boosts combined power output to 184hp (137kW), with WLTP-certified CO2 emissions rising marginally to 118g/km (+9g/100km) compared to the existing 1.8-litre hybrid.

According to Toyota Europe, the 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain has also been "improved", though doesn't exactly divulge where these improvements have been made. The 122hp (91kW) system power output remains unchanged.

Elsewhere, the C-HR picks up a revised tune for the power steering system for improved feel, while all variants also benefit from an "upgraded NVH pack" to further reduce cabin noise.

Models fitted with the 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain also get a new suspension system that "improves ride comfort" too.

Further details will come to hand closer to the upgraded C-HR's European launch later this year.

Australia

The 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain has just been confirmed for our market before the end of the year as part of the updated range, though the peppier 2.0-litre option won't be heading Down Under.

According to a Toyota Australia spokesperson, the more powerful system "wasn’t made available for the Australian market".

Further details including full pricing and specifications will be announced in the lead up to the updated range's release in December.
