2020 BMW M3 spied with large grille

Next-generation super sedan will feature a larger grille than the rest of the 3 Series range.

The next-generation BMW M3 sedan has been spied on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Unlike early prototypes, BMW has taken away the temporary mesh trim protecting the grille. The vertical slats on this prototype's grille are steel bars held in place by visible screws, so they're clearly not the final design.

The large open space suggests the M3's high-performance engine has large cooling requirements, and the new M3 will feature a more prominent pair of kidney grilles than the regular 3 Series range.

More aggressively styled bumpers, wider rear wheel arches, quad tailpipes, and, possibly, a vent behind the front wheels are all present on the sports sedan.

Under the bonnet the new M3 is reportedly powered by a version of the 'S58' 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine employed by the X3 M and X4 M.

In those crossovers, the S58 is paired with an eight-speed automatic, and produces 600Nm of torque, and 353kW or 375kW of power depending on trim.

Rumours suggest the M3 will be offered as a both a rear-biased all-wheel drive system, as well as a "pure" rear-wheel drive setup.
