2017 Mazda CX-9 recalled

1280 family SUVs could have faulty wiring harnesses that could cause numerous electrical issues.

Mazda Australia has issued a recall for the 2017 model-year CX-9 crossover over concerns a wiring issue could cause "communication errors" between the vehicle's control modules.

The company reports affected vehicles could have wiring harness connectors that have "weak retention force".

Several issues could occur as a result:

  • False warnings may be displayed on the instrument cluster
  • The turn signals (indicators) may not operate as intended
  • The engine may not be able to be restarted, and/or
  • The front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended in the event of an accident

A total of 1280 SUVs are affected by this recall, available for sale between 16 October 2017 and 6 February 2019. The VIN list for these vehicles is available here.

Owners of the recalled CX-9 models will be contacted by Mazda Australia, and advised to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to repair the affected wiring connectors, free of charge.
