2020 Nissan Titan facelift unveiled

The Nissan Titan has been given a facelift to give the big truck a little more presence.

The Titan's 5.6-litre Endurance V8 engine has been given a few more ponies, and is now rated at 298kW of power and 560Nm of torque. That's up 7kW and 26Nm over the outgoing model, while a nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the old seven-speed unit.

Externally, the updated Titan is distinguished by the "powerful warrior" design theme, which includes new LED head- and tail-light units, a more imposing grille, revised bumpers, an eye-catching tailgate appliqué, and new alloy wheels.

Other new features include an all-LED lighting for the tray, a 7.0-inch instrumentation display, a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with over-the-air updates, and a dual-panel panoramic moonroof.

The safety package has been boosted by the addition of two airbags, bringing the total to eight, and two additional seat belt pretensioners.

Front and rear autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and high beam assist are all standard, while surround view cameras, smart cruise control and traffic sign recognition are optional.

Sales-wise, the Titan is the least popular of all the full-size pickup trucks available in the US. So far this year, just 22,857 have been shifted.

That's well behind its compatriot, the Toyota Tundra (78,012), and leagues away from the domestic models: Ford F-Series (448,398), the Ram pickup (299,480), Chevrolet Silverado (256,776), and GMC Sierra (97,404).

And it's only marginally ahead of the smaller monocoque Honda Ridgeline (21,306).
