2019 Ssangyong Korando Launch Edition pricing and specs

The critical Korando, which straddles the compact and mid-sized SUV segments, is priced from $32,990 drive-away.

Ssangyong has announced pricing and specifications for its all-important Korando SUV, which is now available in two 'Launch Edition' trims.

The arrival of the new Korando will play a large role in determining whether Ssangyong will succeed in the long term. July was the company's initial goal for launch, but that's (obviously) been pushed back.

At 4450mm long and 1870mm wide, it’s 30mm shorter than a Kia Sportage and 36mm shorter than a Hyundai Tucson, and around 15mm narrower than both. Its wheelbase is very similar to both fellow South Koreans, however.

The line-up will start with the Korando ELX LE, priced from $32,990 drive-away. Power comes from a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel making 100kW and 324Nm, mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. It's front-wheel drive in base ELX LE grade, and all-wheel drive in top-spec Ultimate LE guise.

Inside, there's a leather steering wheel, cruise control, a 10.25-inch full colour instrument display (complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the driver display), an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the dashboard, and a six-speaker audio system. Keyless entry and start is standard across the range.

Standard safety equipment is generous, despite the ELX LE serving as base model. It gets autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam, rain-sensing wipers, and rear cross-traffic alert. Parking sensors are also included across the range.

It rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, and the daytime running lights, tail-lights and indicators are all LED units.

Moving up to the Ultimate LE adds all-wheel drive, 19-inch alloy wheels, a full-sized spare wheel, leather seats and a heated leather steering wheel, powered (heated/cooled) front seats, tyre-pressure monitoring, LED headlamps and fog lights, a powered tailgate, a chrome grille, and dual-zone climate control. It's priced from $39,990 drive-away.

CarAdvice is following up what the range will look like when the Launch Edition's run is done. Stay tuned.
