Subaru Levorg Prototype teased ahead of Tokyo debut

The Subaru Levorg Prototype has been teased ahead of its debut at next month's Tokyo motor show.

The current Levorg shares much with the previous-generation Impreza range, including the dashboard, but has a wider and longer body with unique exterior styling.

From the teaser image we can see the Levorg will have squared-off wheel arches, smoother surfacing, and not a single body panel from the latest Impreza.

Under the skin the next-generation Levorg should be based on the company's global architecture, which already underpins the latest Impreza and Forester, as well as the Legacy/Liberty sedan and Outback wagon on sale in the US.

This should lead to reduced weight, greater body rigidity, and improved performance and fuel economy.

It's not known what will power the next-generation Levorg, but the current model is available with 1.6- and 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engines, all-wheel drive, and a continuously variable transmission.

In Japan the 2.0 STI tops the range with a 221kW/400Nm engine, while Australian models max out at 197kW/350Nm.

According to the company, the new Levorg will have all the latest technology and provides "a future that everyone can enjoy driving at the full, at their will".

The 2019 Tokyo motor show kicks off on October 23, local time.
