2020 DS 8 spied

Flagship luxury sedan spotted testing in Europe, but its main target market is China, where sedans are still popular.

The DS 8 luxury sedan has been photographed during testing in Europe.

Although the prototype is disguised all over, we can see it very closely resembles the car leaked at the end of May.

Up front it has the brand's upright six-point grille, while along the sides there's a pronounced shoulder. At the back, the DS 8 has thin jewel-like tail-lights similar to ones employed by the DS 7 Crossback.

The car's principal market will be China, and it's possible the sedan could also be sold in Europe. If it does go on sale in its homeland, the DS 8 would likely find favour among high-ranking government officials.

It's believed the DS 8 will use the PSA Group's EMP2 platform, and will share a 2848mm wheelbase with the China-only long wheelbase version of the Peugeot 508.

Using the 508L as a guide, the DS 8 will be roughly 4.85 metres in length. Like the 508L, the DS 8 will have framed side windows and a conventional sedan bootlid rather than a fastback design.

With shared components a driving mantra of Carlos Tavares' PSA Group, the DS 8 will likely have the same drivetrains as the 508. For China options should include a 155kW/300Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

A plug-in hybrid option could come online later, and diesel engines will likely be part of the mix if the car does go on sale in Europe.
