2020 Alpina B3 Touring revealed: Still want that M3 wagon?

Alpina has revealed its latest worked-over BMW, the B3 Touring, with sights set on filling a void BMW M has consistently refused to fill.

Based on the garden-variety 3 Series Touring, the B3 Touring is powered by an S58 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engine making 340kW and 700Nm. That means it's actually the first 3 Series to get the M3's new engine. It's put to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

In keeping with its 'autobahn-first' manifesto, Alpina doesn't quote a 100km/h sprint time. It does, however, say the B3 Touring will pull beyond 300km/h at full noise in Sport+, making it ("probably") the "fastest estate car of its kind".

Alongside speed, comfort is at the forefront of Alpina's focus. With that in mind, the B3 gets fully adaptive dampers, along with larger stabiliser bars (to keep things rock solid as the speedo swings beyond a triple century, no doubt) and Eibach springs.

Brakes measuring 395mm at the front and 345mm at the rear coupled with four-piston fixed calipers are standard, drilled discs and uprated pads are optional.

They hide behind a set of 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, available in either 'Dynamic' or 'Classic' designs. The bigger rolling stock works with a deep front splitter, new side skirts, and a moderately more aggressive rear diffuser (featuring quad pipes) to separate the B3 Touring from more mundane 3 Series models.

Inside, Alpina has treated the 3er to the usual range of upgrades. That means new, unique displays in the digital dashboard, a build plaque on the dashboard, and lashings of luxurious Lavalina leather.

The B3 Touring will be launched in Europe during the first quarter of 2020.
