2020 Land Rover Defender: Off-road specs leaked

Land Rover just can't seem to keep the Defender covered up, with another leak on social media revealing even more of its new off-roader.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender has been uncovered in full, revealing the car's off-road capabilities and various body styles more clearly than before.

Set to launch on September 10 at the Frankfurt motor show, the hotly-anticipated off-roader (which has been subject to countless leaks) will be styled to look like the DC100 concept revealed in 2011, according to magazine pages leaked by soflorovers on Instagram.

The longer Defender 110 will have 291mm of ground clearance, a 38-degree approach angle and 40-degree departure angle, a 28-degree break over angle, and a maximum wading depth of 900mm.

For comparison's sake, the outgoing 110 claimed 250mm of axle clearance and 314mm of underbody clearance, a 35.6-degree departure angle, and a 49-degree approach angle.

Expect to see four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case and locking central differential standard, with the option to add an active locking rear differential.

According to the leak, the Defender will offer a payload of 900kg and a braked-towing capacity up to 3720kg.

That means there are plenty of classic Defender cues, including its bluff nose and single-bar front grille, but the overall shape is slightly softer and more rounded. The headlamps carry a semicircular motif inside their square housings, just like the concept, but there's more than a hint of Range Rover about the detailing around the lower air intakes.

Down back, the simple round lights of the old Defender have been replaced with flush-fitting LED units. There's a boot-mounted spare wheel, along with a tough-looking bash plate on one of the cars pictured on Instagram.

It's not clear whether the car pictured is wearing factory accessories or third-party kit, but it's loaded with overlanding equipment. We'll know more when the Defender officially launches.

We know there will be three body styles offered in the new Defender range: the 90, 110 and 130.

Expect to see the 110 in October with five-, six- and seven-seat options, along with a choice of six engines. All drivetrains come standard with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.

In the UK, the new Defender will be available in Standard, S, SE, HSE and X trim lines.

Entry-level models will come equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, fabric seats with eight-way electric adjustment up front, a 140W six-speaker sound system, a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and 7.0-inch multifunction display.

Top-spec models gain 16-way electric seat adjustment, leather upholstery, a 14-speaker 740W Meridian sound system, 20-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlamps, and a 12.0-inch digital instrumentation screen.
