2020 Skoda Octavia RS wagon spied

Heated up wagon will feature sportier details, lowered suspension, and a less polarising design.

The new Skoda Octavia RS wagon has been spied undergoing testing in the European Alps.

At the front the RS is differentiated from lesser Octavia variants with its redesigned bumper, which features a larger lower air intake. This is flanked by a pair of big fake inlets and repositioned fog lights.

The side view of the RS is dominated by large alloy wheels with red brake calipers, wider sills, and a lower ride height. At the back there's a restyled bumper with two large exhaust tips on either side, of course.

Unlike the current Octavia, the next-generation model will have a more conventional headlight design, as well as tail-lights which stretch into the tailgate.

Under the skin will ride on an updated version of the MQB platform shared with the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf.

If history is any guide, the Octavia RS will feature the same basic drivetrain as the Golf GTI. This will likely mean a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with upwards of 180kW of power. Could Skoda go even more powerful, and do a version with the 213kW engine from the Golf GTI TCR? Cross your fingers.

We expect a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to be offered.
