Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept teased
The three-pointed star has previewed its upcoming EQ Concept, set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
Look out, Tesla! The Germans are gunning for the Model S, and Mercedes-Benz is the latest to join in the barrage with the EQ Concept.
The German automaker has released a front-end teaser of the concept vehicle that’ll debut at this month’s Frankfurt motor show. The teaser reveals slim LED daytime-running lights, and an illuminated badge but little else. Blame that pesky cloth.
Better insights can be gleaned from the silhouette photos teased in the background (below). They reveal a long wheelbase and a rakish and muscular profile reminiscent of the existing CLS and AMG GT 4-Door coupes, but with a shorter bonnet and boot.
Carscoops is reporting the EQ Concept will likely preview the upcoming EQS, a full-size, five-door electric liftback designed to battle the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
The EQS will be the first Mercedes to use the new Modular Electric Architecture (MEA), designed specifically for electric vehicles. Though the name hasn’t been confirmed, Mercedes is tipped to be using the EQS nameplate which suggests this will be the flagship passenger car of the EQ electric sub-brand.
Reportedly, the EQS will be launched in 2021 and may have a range of over 500km. By comparison, the Tesla Model S offers up to 660km in 'Long Range' guise.
The EQS’s estimated range does, however, compare favourably with the Taycan (450km in Turbo guise) and e-tron GT (400km).

The EQS has been extensively snapped by spy photographers for Carscoops earlier this year. These photographs revealed a dramatically sloped bonnet, frameless windows, minimal overhangs, and headlights resembling those of the EQC crossover.
Mercedes has confirmed it’ll have ten pure-electric vehicles by 2022. The EQC crossover and EQV van have already been revealed and Mercedes is readying an electric version of the new GLB crossover, the EQB, for a 2021 introduction.
They also teased a lithe three-door hatchback, the EQA, at the 2017 Frankfurt show, which shouldn't be far from a production debut – if not before the end of this year, we'd wager the EQA will debut in Geneva next March.
