2020 Aston Martin DBX spied again

British marque's first SUV taking shape, with a full reveal scheduled for December.

Photographers have snapped the upcoming Aston Martin DBX during development testing in Europe, ahead of the British performance SUV's full reveal later this year.

We can see Aston Martin's first crossover is very close to production, with very little in the way of false panels visible in these latest images – though the body remains concealed under an eye-catching wrap.

The DBX clearly draws upon the frontal design cues of other models in the marque's stable, including the headlight and grille design, with the sloping roofline extending into a fastback tailgate with a Vantage-style bum and tail-light treatment.

Big brakes hide behind the large alloy wheels and low-profile tyres, while door handles that sit flush with the body work feature on each door – something Aston Martin has been employing for a while on its high-end sports cars.

Power in the DBX is expected to come from a version of Mercedes-AMG's 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, which is believed to be the sole powertrain that will be available at launch.

In the Vantage, this engine develops 375kW of power and 685Nm of torque. However, given the DBX's all-wheel drive system (potentially with a Drift Mode) and high-powered rivals like the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne Turbo, we could see the DBX use a more potent tune of AMG's staple V8.

The interior is expected to borrow heavily from the Mercedes parts bin, too, as previous prototypes we've spied have featured Benz-sourced gadgetry and components for the steering wheel and centre stack (as seen above).

Aston Martin has been using Mercedes-sourced parts for infotainment and some switchgear in the DB11 and Vantage already, though we'd wager it'll be more cleanly integrated than the above image.

When it gets revealed in December, the DBX will be one of the company's most important launches in its long-running history.

"[The DBX] will probably become the most important car in our history, because it will become the car that transforms us as we try to address all parts of the high-luxury market," said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO.

"It will target the US and China, two critical markets and it will change the dynamics of the company."
